Product Description

The Magnum SMA8, with its commanding presence, has proven to be the go-to case for professional system builders and case modders around the world. With its heavy-duty all aluminum construction and unsurpassed modularity, the SMA8 spans a diverse range of applications from forensic systems used by top government security agencies to all-out showcase builds featured in popular magazines.

Enthusiast features include a slide-out motherboard tray that doubles as a tech station. Hinged, removable doors allow fast and easy access to the interior. In fact, the tool-less panel design allows the entire case to be stripped down to the frame in less than a minute. Cable management is a dream.

The SMA8 includes CaseLabs’ innovative Flex-Bay system that allows users to tailor their case to their exact needs. Additional door panels, top covers, pedestals and related items allow for further customization. Finally, every individual part of the case is available separately, so modders can freely add their own distinctive touches and change them back in the future, if needed. From the hardware used to the powdercoat finish, every aspect of the case exudes quality that is second to none.

When your build demands the very best, the Magnum SMA8 is a great choice.

The SMA8 was designed without a fixed I/O panel for the front. Instead, we created a 3.5'' bay mount directly under the switches. Now you have the freedom to have any type I/O panel you like or none at all! The switch assembly includes two switch plates, a solid version and one with a cut-out for your 3.5'' device.

We offer this 3.5'' device wih USB and HD audio. We can even color match it to your CaseLabs case!

  1. Best case ever for custom liquid cooling setup

Posted by Michael Hill on 19th Nov 2017

I have never been completely happy with a case purchase until now. When I was assembling my SMA-8, every possible little detail that I might have nitpicked about was a detail that CaseLabs had already thought of and somehow made exactly the way I would have if I were designing it. The slide out motherboard tray, the flex-bay system, the hidden basement and backside...all of it is simply better thought out than any other case on the market.

  2. Top notch build quality

Posted by Waldo on 7th Sep 2017

I have not yet started my build, but I have put together the case and I was extremely impressed with both the quality of the materials used, as well as the packaging. The unit is quite large but this allows for endless configurations. The build quality is easily on par with the old Mac Pro - which is quite a statement to make.

It took approximately 9 weeks to deliver, which is on the upper end of what was promised, so not too many complaints there.

  3. Quality is Key

Posted by Cody Logston on 7th Aug 2017

Caselabs has got quality figured out. The instructions could use a little more polishing, but the physical case is flawless. It was packaged perfectly to protect in shipment including foam between every layer and everything individually wrapped. You pretty much get exactly what you pay for. You pay top price you get top gear. Overall it is worth every dollar so far. It is the small things like being able to remove the motherboard tray that make it so great. Plus you get a ton of spare parts in case you are great at losing small screws like me. I would have liked to seen a little more detail to assembly instructions section of the front panel of the case. The assembly for the front section gave me a little trouble and I had to re-do it twice and I suspect once more to install fans. I would say if Caselabs gave instructions to people that order special front mounts it would go a long way in my book. Although I might just be a little slow on figuring it out. In general though the build was pretty easy and extremely satisfying to put together because everything fit together like a glove. I would recommend this case to anyone that calls their self an enthusiast, especially if quality is your number one. I am just waiting on the extra components I ordered like the radiator mounts. I also ordered an extra on/off switch because I did not realize it came with one. So I guess I will have an extra. All-in-all I would give it 5/5 stars.

  4. Best case I've ever owned in my life...but service was bad

Posted by Jubijub on 22nd Jul 2017

On case quality alone, this is worth a 6 star : I have always bought "good" cases that were well built (Antec, Corsair), but I have never owned a case this good.
But delivery timing and customer services have not been good (see below)

Case packing : I would give 4/5 : the box is well padded, each panel of the case is wrapped in a thick transparent plastic pouch. It's probably sufficient for US mainland shipping, but I got this shipped to Switzerland. As the panels are a bit lose in the box they can move, and the salient edges of the panels pierced through the heavy plastic. I got 3 panels with scratches, hopefully very minor / non visible from outside, but it could have been worse :(

Assembly : I give 6/5 : This thing is a joy to assemble (very nice manufacturing, everything fits in place), with one reservation on using Philipps screws : why U no Torx ?
Once build, the thing is massive, and commands respect.

Building inside : 5/5 - one little reservation on the doors, that are bloody hard to open, I usually have to pop one of the side panels to open from inside. The motherboard tray is a thing of beauty, and building a watercooling in that case is a joy (which is the reason I chose it in the first place).

Shipping accuracy / service : -7/5 : when I ordered end of april, the case was due for Mid-may. I received it mid-July. During this time I received only once a proactive communication from Caselabs, and it was on June 23rd to let me know the case was beeing built. I know CL had issues with factory, but I don't see what prevented them to :
    - issue proactive communication earlier, and regularly (getting all customers with a pending order > x days is a basic SQL query)
    - communicate often, let people know what is going on (if I was not reading Overclock.net I would have never known)

I would purchase again from CL, but service has to improve.

[CaseLabs: While we are happy to hear that the case met with your expectations for quality, we are very sorry for the customer service experience you had. In short, production levels simply got away from us and we became very shorthanded. Those problems have been addressed. Lead times are now less than half of what they were and we have expanded customer service so that we can be far more responsive and return to the level of excellence our customers expect.]

  6. Best Case Ever

Posted by Thomas D Sharkey on 8th Jun 2017

Don't know what I can say that hasn't already been said about the SMA8, and all the other caselab models.
The fabrication, fit and powder coat finish on my SMA8 are absolutely superb.
Every screw hole aligned, and all parts fitted together perfectly.
Had a blast putting it together.

  7. Pleasure to build in

Posted by John on 14th May 2017

I have to say this my favorite case of all the cases I have built in. I like the the case is customizable and that all of the parts can be replaced. I also like the width of this case. I like that it has plenty of space for dual loops and because of all the space there are so many options. I think caselabs should make a fatter cover for the top in case you want to mount a fat radiator externally on the top so you can have a lot of fans and tall reservoirs.

  8. Top quality product and service.

Posted by Jordan Ness on 9th May 2017

I ordered my SMA8 about 2 months ago now. CaseLabs ran into a small production issue that set them back about a week and a half on the estimated ship date, but they were completely up front and honest with me the whole way through. I didnt subtract anything from the rating because of two reasons. First of all youre paying for a custom made product so I expected a wait and an extra week didnt hurt me any. Second of all I was waiting on a few more parts so I really wasnt upset because they had not arrive just yet anyway. After my wait I had an issue with UPS which scared me because I thought they lost it. CaseLabs not only tracked down my case for me, but brought it back to their warehouse, inspected it, repackaged it, and upgraded my shipping to next day air to get it to me on time. They truly are the best. As for the case itself my mind is blown. The reviews of others have not lied. It is worth the wait. The case is beautiful, well constructed, fairly simple to assemble, and has more room for cable management and mods of any kind than you could imagine without seeing it in person. This really is one of the greatest cases on the market and a company that spares no expense to make sure that you get what you pay for.

  9. Mind Blowing

Posted by Justin on 2nd May 2017

I waited for this Case for over three months and the longer i waited the more i was regretting getting this case. I just received mine and put it together and was was lost for words about this case its is Amazing and worth every penny to anyone wanting a seriously massive case. There is so many options you can do with this case. I spent around 8 hours putting my entire build together with the help of a friend, but once i got it all together. I Will NOT Ever Own another case hands down worth every dollar you will spend. Worth the Time Wait and Money.

  10. Quality, with some effort

Posted by Ronny on 27th Feb 2017

It takes a while to assemble, not gonna lie. But once you put in the time, you end with a case that's as strong as it is beautiful. It's nice and light weight, considering the size. Plenty of room to route cables and create a clean beast of a work station. I love the Gun Metal grey, I doubt you'll find a finish like this on other manufacturers cases. All in all, I'm super happy. It costs quite a bit, but you get what you pay for in this Case. (haha Puns are fun, whomp whomp)

Side note, I had to contact customer support and I got an answer lightning quick. Major props to CaseLabs.
